Indian Computer Emergency Response Team(CERT-IN) has issued alert for “Locky Ransomware” Email Malware
From the starting of this year, hackers are able to disturb the world and able to get what they wanted from the people. After WannaCry and Petya Ransomware, Now hackers or cyber criminals are now spreading malware through the malicious email. Therefore through this article, we are going to tell you what is Locky Ransomware? How this malware spread there-selves? and at last how you can secure yourself from this new malware?
What is Locky Malware?
After WannaCry And Petya ransomware, hackers now all set make the world disturb and worried for their data again. Just like other ransomware malware this new “Locky Ransomware” locks down the user’s computer and ask some ransom to unlock their device. But there is one thing that makes this ransomware different from other is that “The Way it spread itself”. Locky malware is distributed through a new file extension “.diablo6”, and this new malware has “.Lukitus” extension for encrypting files. Locky ransomware uses spam mails to get the access of the victim computer. According to the researcher’s those spam mails contains some malicious zip file. And those zip file contains some VBS(Visual Basic Scripts) code in the secondary zip file. And according to the researchers, once victim open the zip files, Malware got the permission to get download automatically on the victim computer and once the malware got download hackers have the full access of victim computer.
Researchers also said that malicious emails will contain some common subjects like “please print”, “documents”, “photo”, “images”, “scans” and “pictures”. And once you open the email and when the malware got downloaded in your computer. Soon you will notice that your desktop background changed and showing HTM file named “Lukitus[dot]htm”, which means that you are hacked and you have to pay 0.5 Bitcoin(1.5 Lakh Rs.) ransom to unlock your computer.
How to Stop or How To secure yourself from this malware?
If you thought that there will be some dead end or some glitch available to stop this ransomware without paying anything. Then you think wrong as till now there is no such a way to unlock infected computers without paying a ransom. So there is only one thing remaining that we can do is “make ourselves secure from this malware”.
Some ways to protect yourself from Locky Ransomware are:
- Back up your files.
- Use an antivirus program.
- Don’t open suspicious emails and website.
- Regularly Make Back Up of important files and folders.
- Don’t pay ransom with there is nothing important in your computer.
